Tube-O-Rama Manual
Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the Wakatech Tube-O-Rama. The Tube-O-Rama acts as a bridge between YouTube and Second Life, allowing you to select YouTube videos and view them within your Second Life parcel.
The Tube-O-Rama is composed of a back-end server system that downloads, converts and streams your selected YouTube videos and an in-world control panel and viewing screen that lets you watch the processed videos.
This manual will help you install and use the Wakatech Tube-O-Rama.
Disclaimer
A few caveats before we begin:
- The performance of the Tube-O-Rama system is affected by a number of factors outside our control. Service can be temporarily or permanently interrupted by sim performance, network performance, hosted server performance and YouTube performance, to name a few. Wakatech is not liable for service interruptions or slow response times but will work to resolve them if at all possible.
- It is entirely possible that at some point in the future YouTube will modify their terms of use or APIs in such a way as to render the Tube-O-Rama system unusable. Wakatech will do everything possible in such an event to restore service but cannot be held liable for the discontinuation of the service when caused by external factors.
- This product comes with a seven day refund policy, please contact Squeebee Wakawaka in-world via IM to arrange a product return within that period. After seven days this product is non-refundable.
Purchasing
To purchase a WakaTech Tube-O-Rama system, visit http://slurl.com/secondlife/BlaksleeWorld/217/112/24. Here you can try the Tube-O-Rama system out yourself and purchase it from the provided vendor system for L$2000.
The purchase price includes one control panel, one boxed WakaTech UltraScreen and a L$500 WakaTech Mul-T-Pay credit for use of the panel.
Once a WakaTech staffer sees notice of your purchase you will be invited to join the Tube-O-Rama user’s group. This group is used to announce and distribute new episodes to users. If after 24 hours you have not received an invite, contact Squeebee Wakawaka in-world.
Installation
The Wakatech Tube-O-Rama consists of two components, the WakaTech UltraScreen and the Tube-O-Rama control panel. Start by installing the screen according to the instructions included with the screen and found 0nline at http://www.wakatech.com/products/wakatech-ultrascreen.
Once the screen is installed and sized, click the control panel, then choose Admin and click the Set Texture button to automatically configure the screen and parcel media textures. If you ever want to change the texture used on the screen, open the control panel and delete and existing textures. Drop in your own texture and click the Set Texture button again (custom textures must have full Modify/Copy/Transfer permissions).
Group Land
If you are installing the Tube-O-Rama on group land, you will have to deed the WakaTech UltraScreen (but not the control panel) to the group that owns the land. To deed the screen, right-click on the screen and choose Edit, then on the General tab, check the box marked Share with group and click the Deed… button. Once the screen has been deeded you can use the Set Texture button on the Admin menu to set the parcel media settings.
Configuration
The Tube-O-Rama is configured using a notecard. Open the Tube-O-Rama by right-clicking on it and choosing Open from the pie menu, then double-click on the Configuration notecard in the inventory list.
There are several configuration options available:
- screenchannel - This is the communications channel number used for communications between the Tube-O-Rama panels and the Tube-O-Rama screens. This should only need changing if multiple Tube-O-Ramas are used in close proximity. If you change the value on the panel, be sure to change it on the screen as well.
- changers - A list of users who are allowed to change the currently loaded video, separated by commas. If this value is commented out or left blank then any user will be able to change the video. Keep in mind that each user has to use their own credits to change the video, so providing open access does not mean other users can use your credit balance.
- administrators - A list of users who are allowed to access the panel’s Admin menu. If this value is commented out of left blank then access to the Admin menu is limited to the owner of the panel.
- trustmode - By default users have to visit a Wakatech Mul-T-Pay terminal to add to their credit balance because users generally should not deploy scripts that have permission to take money from their balance. If you wish to avoid having to visit a Mul-T-Pay terminal to replenish your credits, set trustmode to true. When trustmode is set to true, you will be prompted to grant permission to debit lindens from your balance. Any user who pays the panel will increase their credit balance. The Lindens paid into the panel will be credited to you, and the panel will then take those credits and transfer them to Wakatech. While we declare the code to be secure and non-malicious we do not enable trust mode by default.
- padding - Because of network delays most viewers will not start playing the video the moment you click the Play button, leading to videos being cut off before they finish. To compensate for the late playback start, the padding option adds a configurable amount of time to the playback of each video. By default the system pads each video by ten seconds, increasing or decreasing this value compensates for videos playback that ends too early or too late.
- historylock - This option will lock all random and history playback modes to the history of the owner of the panel. This is useful for those who want to share their videos with friends, but can confuse users because even if they add new videos, they will not see them in their history. This affects the Random, My Random and History buttons.
Using the Tube-O-Rama
To begin using the Tube-O-Rama, touch the panel. The Tube-O-Rama panel communicates with the back-end server to ensure that the conversion service is online and retrieves your credit balance. Once the communication is complete, the user menu is displayed:

The menu shows your current credit balance and the current video available for playback. The following buttons are available:
- My Random - Picks a random video from your recode history.
- History - Allows you to browse your recode history in-world.
- Browse - Shows you a full list of your recode history in a web browser, click one to retrieve it.
- Play - Plays the currently available video.
- Change -Select a new YouTube video for playback.
- Random -Picks a random video from all videos in the Tube-O-Rama system.
- Instructions - Provides a notecard with basic usage instructions.
- Add Balance - If trustmode is enabled, allows for you to pay the panel to increase your credit balance. Otherwise provides a landmark to a Wakatech Mul-T-Pay terminal.
- Admin Menu - Opens the administration menu.
Videos can be played free of charge, changing a video requires 10 Lindens. To change the video, do the following:
- Click the Change button. The panel will provide the following prompt after confirming you have sufficient credits to change the video:
WakaTech Tube-O-Rama: System waiting for Squeebee Wakawaka to provide a URL. Please say ‘/tubeorama URL’, without quotes, where URL is the URL from YouTube of the video you want to watch
- Browse to the video you wish to convert on YouTube and copy the URL of the video page (i.e. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2qxAkBqHjU).
- Change the video by saying /tubeorama http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2qxAkBqHjU, substituting the URL of the video you want to watch in Second Life.
- The backend server will download the video, process and then make it available to stream in SL. The panel will display the current status, from Downloading to Processing to Ready: Touch to Play.
Increasing your Credit Balance
Each video change costs 10 Lindens, tracked and displayed on the user menu. When you have insufficient credits, it will no longer be possible to change videos. To increase your credit balance, click Add Balance on the user menu.
Depending on the configuration of the panel, you will either be prompted to pay the panel to increase your balance or will be provided with a landmark to a Wakatech Mul-T-Pay terminal.
Direct Payment
If the Tube-O-Rama panel has been configured for direct payment, clicking the Add Balance button will place the terminal into payment mode. Pay the panel to increase your credit balance, touch the panel to return to the user menu.
Mul-T-Pay
A Wakatech Mul-T-Pay terminal looks like the following:

Touch the terminal to report your current credit balance, pay the terminal to increase your balance.
Administration
Administration tasks are performed on the Admin Menu. Open the Admin Menu by clicking the Admin Menu button on the user menu:

The following buttons are available:
- ScreenSze + - Increase the size of the viewing screen by 10%.
- ScreenSze - - Decrease the size of the viewing screen by 10%.
- Set Texture - Set the texture of the screen and the parcel media texture. The first texture in the screen’s inventory is used.
- Reset - Perform a hard reset of the panel, clearing the current video and debit permissions.
- Exit - Return to the user menu.
Upgrading
Upgrades are sent out through the use of the Upgrade Pyramids:

To upgrade your panels, place the Upgrade Pyramid within 10m of the panels and touch it. The Upgrade Pyramid will automatically locate your panels and upgrade them to the version contained within the upgrade pyramid. Note: The upgrade process triggers a hard-reset of the panels, clearing out the currently queued video.
Troubleshooting
Question: I can hear the video but I can’t see it!
Answer: The media texture for your land has not been set, click the Set Texture button in the Admin menu to match the screen and parcel media textures.
Question: The video loads but when I click play the screen texture shifts but the video never plays.
Answer: This is usually caused when using the system on group land, without deeding the screen to the land group. Deed the screen (and not the control panel) to the group that owns the land to correct this.
Question: I can see video but is it partially cut off!
Answer: Your parcel has auto-scaling turned on. Go to your parcel media options and un-check the Auto-Scale option.
